The GoPro Fusion and Google Street View

We received a request to replace the images for a street on Google Street View, and we used a GoPro Fusion for the very first time to do so! Here’s what it is and what we did.

What it Is and What it Does

The GoPro Fusion is a small camera that captures high-quality 360º videos and photographs. It can connect to smartphones and certain apps so that you can download, edit, and post your videos right after you record them. You can take it anywhere, and according to GoPro’s profile on the Fusion, it isn’t fragile; the GoPro Fusion is “battle tested and waterproof down to 16 feet (5m).” My favorite feature is its automatic stabilization capability, creating incredibly smooth videos without any effort on your part.

Our Experience with the GoPro Fusion

Setting up the GoPro Fusion on its own was easy; all we had to do was attach it to the tripod, turn it on, and begin recording. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get the specific mount that connects the GoPro Fusion to the roof of a car, so we had to Macgyver it a little bit, but after we got that set up, it was a breeze. We connected one of our phones to the GoPro Fusion and started recording. We thought we would have to take multiple videos of the street to have a continuous and smooth video, but it only took one take! GoPro wasn’t lying when they said that the Fusion creates “shockingly smooth video.” The video quality was as amazing and high-definition as advertised, too. Overall, it was a great and easy experience, one that we would definitely do again, but with the car mount, of course!
